Frequently Asked Questions
Where are the properties located?
Casa del Sol is in the quaint village of Puerto Morelos, approximately 20 minutes south of the Cancun airport. The home is a 10–12-minute walk to the town square by road or by beach.
Vive El Sueño is located in Playa del Carmen, about 45 minutes from the airport in Cancun. The condo is an eight-minute drive into downtown Playa.
Do I need to rent a car?
If you plan to spend the majority of your vacation in Puerto Morelos, you do not need a car. Casa del Sol is within walking distance of all restaurants and stores in town. The cab fare to/from town is about $2.00. There is a phone in the house that calls the cab stand directly. Day trips to Tulum, Playa, etc. can be arranged through a transportation service. If you plan to travel extensively while you are there, it would be a good idea to have your own vehicle.
If you are staying at Vive El Sueño and will likely spend most of your time enjoying the onsite amenities, you can easily make use of cabs ($12USD approx.) for four people to cab into town and use tour companies to visit the region. Having a vehicle is a great way to see the area freely however, and is advised if you’d like to explore.
How do I get to the rentals from the airport?
If you are not renting a car, there are many transportation services that are available. A lot of our guests use Canada Transfers. We have gotten very good feedback on them – clean vans, great drivers, reliable and reasonable. If you use this link, you can get to their site. We will be happy to help you set up your transportation to and from the airport by providing you with some booking tips…just ask!
Set up transportation prior to travel. Many times, it is impossible to secure transportation after you have arrived. It’s quick and easy to set up round trip transportation with Canada Transfers before you head to Puerto Morelos or Playa del Carmen!
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in time is 3pm and check-out time is 11am. There might be an occasion that these times are flexible, but most often we have to stick with these times. The houses are very busy and typically there is a group before you and a group after you. If you arrive a little early, we can find a spot to store your bags and you can head to town for a cold drink or snack if you’re at Casa del Sol or make full use of all the amenities on the condo property – pool, beach, restaurants etc. – at Vive El Sueño. Upon departure, if your plane does not leave until later in the afternoon, we can store your bags as you depart the property at 11:00, and you can head into town for lunch or shopping in Puerto Morelos or continue enjoying the resort amenities at Vive El Sueño. We try our hardest to have a smooth check-in/check-out, and we are grateful for everyone’s flexibility!
Do the owners live on-site?
No, we live in Ontario, Canada, but we do have a great staff to take care of your every need.
Casa del Sol: Upon arrival, Roberto, our property manager, will greet you and provide you information about the house. He will also help you put your personal code into the keyless entry lock. Roberto will check on you through your stay. If you need him at any time, the phone in the house has a button that you can press that calls his cell phone directly. Adrian, the caretaker, will clean the pool, take chairs to the beach, help unload groceries, etc. He can also help you with snorkel or fishing reservations. Reyna, Adrian’s wife, will do light cleaning twice a week while you are there and also takes care of the final cleaning.
Vive El Sueño: The condo allows for self-check-in and you will receive your key code prior to arrival. If you need anything during your stay, Andrés is available by WhatsApp to respond. The resort is yours to use during your stay; you only have to book tennis, pickleball, and the gym with the Concierge, to enjoy the amenities.
Do the units both have wi-fi?
Yes, both homes have high speed wireless internet.
Do you have baby gear?
We have a highchair, pack-n-play, and stroller for your use at Casa del Sol & a booster chair, pack-n-play, and stroller for your use at Vive El Sueño.
How do we get groceries?
Casa del Sol: There are two grocery stores up on the highway, Chedraui and Super Aki. They are well stocked with everything you need. Chedraui has a great selection of wine, beer, and liquor. Have your transportation company stop on the way to the house or take a cab after you check-in for $2.
Vive El Sueño: There are many grocery stores in and around the area. You will find an excellent selection at Chedraui on Av 45 Sur Esq, C. 3 Sur S N, and there is also Walmart 30 Avenida Norte or Súper Akí Playa del Carmen 1 at Av. 30 Norte and 14 Norte. NOTE: there are no plastic bags provided at the grocery stores. You will find reusable grocery bags in the maid's room. Please return them when you leave. If you wish, you can also pre-order your groceries and have them delivered for after 4pm. You can also speak with my Property Manager Andrés who can help make this arrangement. For small items or if you’ve forgotten anything, there is a mini mart at the front office which is surprisingly well stocked. They open at 9am and close at 5pm with one hour mid-day closed for lunch.
How many nights is the minimum stay?
Casa Del Sol: Seven nights is usually our minimum. During low season, there might be a little flexibility – just ask!
Vive El Sueño: Three nights is our minimum stay.
Do you allow smoking in the either unit?
No, there is NO smoking in our homes. If you smoke outside, we appreciate you properly disposing of your cigarette butts. There is no smoking on the pool loungers.
May we bring a pet to your vacation home?
Casa del Sol: No, we love our furry friends, but no pets are permitted in either home or on the grounds.
Vive El Sueño: We welcome small and well-behaved dogs. Please check with the owner first. Descriptions and a photo of the pet will be required.
Do you have someone that could cook for us?
There are several options for having a cook at the house. We will email you these options upon request.
What restaurants in town do you recommend?
Casa del Sol: For such a small village, Puerto Morelos has great restaurants! All are very casual and reasonable. We haven’t found any we don’t like, so it’s hard to recommend just a few! Try as many as you can!
Vive El Sueño: The guidebook contains local suggestions although it barely scratches the surface!
What are the departure instructions?
Casa del Sol: Upon arrival, Roberto will give you a check-in information sheet and a departure checklist. We appreciate you taking care of those few things before you leave us.
Vive El Sueño: We ask you to tidy, dispose of all open food, turn down the air conditioning, and leave the parking pass & fan remotes in their holders. Complete instructions are on site.

What are some things to do in the area?
Playa and Puerto Morelos are within 20 minutes of each other and so share many of the same attractions. Puerto Morelos has the Little Mexican Cooking School, Crococun Zoo, and The Jungle Spa, which are all big attractions in the area. Xel Ha, XCaret, and XPlore are parks within an easy drive of both homes. There are also many great cenotes within a 20-minute drive of both homes. 5th Ave. shopping in Playa is about 30 minutes away form Puerto Morelos. Layla Guesthouse, in downtown Puerto Morelos, has some great seminars through the week – bird talks, Mayan culture, cenote history, etc. There are also several yoga sessions going on most days.
Playa del Carmen offers a wide array of activities. All of the attractions of Puerto Morelos are easily accessible by vehicle, you can access Cozumel by ferry, all of the restaurants and attractions of the city are available to you, and you are close to Mayan ruins. There is more detail in the guidebook on site.
What items do you suggest that I bring with me?
Besides your other toiletries, be sure to throw in some bug spray and sunscreen…. These items tend to be more expensive in Mexico, so just bring them!
What is the maximum occupancy of your home?
Vive El Sueño: Maximum of 10 adult or children with one or two infants
Casa del Sol: maximum of 12 adults or families with children up to a maximum of 14
Maximum numbers are strictly enforced. You will be asked to vacate the premises if this policy is not followed.
Can we have day guests at the house?
No, there are no day guests allowed at either property without prior approval of the owner. This policy is also strictly enforced. You will be asked to vacate the premises if this policy is not followed.
Are there safes in the house?
Yes, the master bedroom in Vive El Sueño has a safe that holds passports, wallets, and money.
There is a large safe in Casa del Sol downstairs that hold laptops, iPads, purses, etc. Casa del Sol has three bedrooms with a safe.
Where do we change currency to pesos?
There is a money exchange booth on the town square in Puerto Morelos where you can easily exchange money. It is recommended that guests not use the ATM machines outdoors. There have been reports at times of cards being compromised. Use the ATMs inside the OXXO convenience stores in town, the ATM at Chedraui, or use the money exchange booth in town. There is also a bank next door to Chedraui that will exchange your money at a very good exchange rate.
In Playa del Carmen there are many exchange booths throughout the city but particularly along 5th Ave.
Do shops and restaurants take credit cards?
Most places in Puerto Morelos and Playa take credit cards, but do not count on using cards everywhere. All the grocery chains will accept most major credit cards. Please note that Chedraui has a $250 credit card limit. If you foresee your grocery bill exceeding $250, you may want to consider bringing an additional credit card or cash to make up the difference.
Are you sure you answered all my questions?
